    Media Arts - School Year Course

    Location: Franklin High School

    No pre-requisites; Fine Arts cross credit

    In this course, students will gain a wide variety of video production skills and begin developing their own Media Arts portfolio.  Students will learn about the three phases of production and take on production jobs including editing, script writing, set design, lighting, camera work, audio production, directing, and graphic design.

    Unit 1 Media Arts Careers

    • Develop 21st Century Life and Career Skills related to working in the digital media industry.
    • Perform basic computer functions.
    • Implement communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
    • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
    • Media literacy ethics
    • Fair Use Guidelines and Copyright Law

    Unit 2 Visual Communication

    • Visual Design Elements: recognize and apply the following elements and principles.
    • Color Theory: recognize and apply the following concepts.
    • Image Composition: recognize and use the following concepts.
    • Typography: Recognize and apply the following concepts.
    • Communication: Demonstrate and use skills.
    • Readability: Use text format to effectively communicate content.
    • Raster Graphics: Students will create, manipulate, and appropriately use bitmap (raster) graphics.
    • Vector Graphics: Understand, create, manipulate, and appropriately use vector graphics.

    Unit 3 Digital Audio

    • Plan and create digital audio.
    • Understand and edit digital audio.

    Unit 4 Animation

    • Understand and use the ADDIE Model.
    • Understand and use the Adobe professional design and development process.
    • Demonstrate 21st Century Life and Career Skills in the ability to work individually in the completion of digital media projects.
    • Demonstrate 21st Century Life and Career Skills in the ability to work as a team member in the completion of digital media projects.
    • Animations: Create, manipulate, and appropriately use animations.
    • Animation Techniques: Effectively use animation techniques.

    Unit 5 Digital Video and Audio Production

    • Plan pre-production of creating digital video.
    • Production stage of creating digital video.
    • Post-production stage of creating digital video.
    • Plan and create digital audio.
    • Understand and edit digital audio.
    • Digital audio media management and players.

    Unit 6 UX Design

    • Plan, create, edit, and publish a basic website.
    • Develop an awareness of digital and collaborative technologies.
    • Create a digital portfolio adhering to copyright and Fair Use Guidelines of the student’s best work.
    • Output portfolio projects to an appropriate delivery medium.
