What is Media Art?
Media Art refers to artworks that depend on a technological component. This includes projects presented via film, television, radio, audio, video, the Internet, interactive and mobile technologies, video games, trans-media storytelling, and satellite as well as media-related printed books, catalogs, and journals.
What is the Seattle Skills Center?
The Seattle Skills Center is a pathway to creative industry jobs for 16-20 year old Seattle Public Schools students. The Seattle Skills Center's new Media Arts course offers creative, technical and professional training for students interested in pursuing a career in Media Arts. Students will gain experience with a wide variety of media, develop 21st century skills, and build a diverse portfolio of works that can lead to post-secondary certification programs, two year technical degrees, and four-year university degrees in Digital Audio Production, Animation, Film & Video Production, or Multimedia Design.
How to get started:
1. Talk to your family.
The Seattle Skills Center is distributed throughout the city, not in a single building or location. The new Media Arts course will be held at Seattle World School. Free transportation to/from Seattle World School is provided to all students taking Skills Center courses.
2. Talk to your counselor.
Skills Center courses are typically held for 2.5 hours a day. It's important to plan ahead so that you can schedule your other classes accordingly.
