    Nursing Assistant

    Medical careers are among the fastest growing in our economy. The Skills Center program of study in Medical Careers prepares students for foundation medical skills including: job shadows, externships, on-site hands-on practice and Nurse Assistant certification. Learn and use medical terminology, computer and clinical skills, communications, business application and law and ethics.

    The Skills Center Program for Medical Careers prepares students to successfully perform as nursing assistants in the clinical care setting. This is a required certification for most nursing programs and also a perfect base for most allied health careers. In this course there are multiple hands-on opportunities, both in the lab in class and also in health care facilities both through shadowing and clinical field placements. Competencies taught in this class include basic nursing care and nurse assistant skills, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, rehabilitation and restorative care, communication skills, infection control and blood borne pathogens, and law and ethics, as well as job preparation skills such as professionalism expectations, career planning, resume building, and interview preparation and practice.

    Course Objectives:

    This course will teach the student the required competencies to take the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam (NNAAP) and to become a successful and practicing nursing assistant.

    • 1.5 Occupational Ed. credits OR 1.0 Occupational Ed. Credit + .5 Lab Science
